Today's popular musical styles have been influenced by many rich cultural traditions. In most music throughout the world, the drum is the heart of life. Ebo Okokan offers this life force of Afro-Cuban rhythms from the heart.
The artistic vision of Ebo Okokan is to cultivate a regional and nationally recognized performing ensemble of musicians, dancers and singers. Our vision is to provide entertainment and education to show the connections and influences that the Afro-Cuban culture has had and continues to have on the American culture.
Ebo Okokan is a traditional Afro-Cuban Folkloric Music and Dance Ensemble. Our mission is to preserve the integrity and authenticity of the Afro-Cuban culture through performances, lecture-demonstrations, and workshops.
Ebo Okokan will entertain you with a captivating performance and lecture-demonstrations, and will enlighten audiences of all ages through drum and dance workshops, instrument construction, and interactive performances.
Ebo Okokan has existed in several forms before consolidating into its present configuration of musicians, dancers, and singers. since 1992, Ebo Okokan has presented workshops, performances, lectures and demonstrations from elementary schools to universities, community events, and other regional and local, multi-cultural functions. Beginning as a group of three musicians and two dancer-singers, Ebo Okokan has grown as an ensemble to six drummers and six singers (four of which are dancers).
