| The
seven-piece band, Tulasi, presents J Ross-Parrelli. A vocalist
and lyricst, Parrelli
brings earthly music; make
you feel good music, music that brings a fresh break to a busy
day. J Ross-Parrelli bring sensuality to soul, life to real-world
lyrics and womanhood to hip-hop. Parrelli’s music has
infused jazz, hip-hop, reggae, funk and Latin grooves. Ross-Parrelli’s
voice has soul like a Southern gospel singer and the sultriness
of a jazz musician from the Great Depression era. It has been
said that Parrelli echoes the vibrant sounds of Aretha Franklin,
Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah and Jill Scott. Tulasi expands minds,
encourages people to believe in dreams and reminds people what
it is to be human. J
Ross-Parrelli, thus far, has been able to share the stage
with legends such as Winston Jarret, KRS-ONE, Wadi Gad, Bahamadia,
Victor Essiet and the Mandators and Heart, Life and Soul.
The seven-piece band has also headlined and performed at
various festivals such as, Mt Shasta Renegade Festival, North
West World Reggae Festival, Sierra Nevada, Lafeyette Music
and Cultural Festival, Ceaser’s of Lake Tahoe, the
Universal One Love Festival, Wave House in Ocean Side and
Mt. High Sky Resort. J Ross has recently returned from a
two month tour in Africa in which she performed alongside
Femi Kuti at the Nigerian Shrine as well as Third World at
the Calabar Carnival. During her years at Cal State Long
Beach she participated in the Poetry Slam Team. In 2005 J
Ross-Parrelli received the Best Political Poem in The Nation,
awarded for her poem, “J Ross-Parrelli for President.” Tulasi
has also been blessed to have been featured in Reggae Source
Magazine and placed on the soundtrack for the film, American
Jewish Princess, which was awarded Best Documentary at the
Del Rey Film Festival.
Ross-Parrelli has brought in an audience of all genres,
all ages and all cultures.
