ONE ROOT FESTIVAL 2003

Path To Oneness

One Root Festival returns to the Greater Sacramento and Placer area again on September 20 and 21 2003 at the Royer Park in Downtown Roseville, with a message of unity.  This year’s theme is Path to Oneness.

The two-day area communities’ festival in its fifth year using food arts and music as simple non-threatening method to bring people of all cultures together.  Last year, there were over 20 cultures represented through cornucopia of food, galleries of arts and bevies of beautiful music that serenaded over ten thousand event participants.

The event is free to the public.  This year multiethnic music line-up include Saturday performance by  Shabaz – Sufi and western fusion, Native Elements – San Francisco Reggae, Borrina Mapaka & Luzolo – African Hip Hop and Canela – Tex Mex.  Sunday performers include Patchouli - Japanese folk music, Freight Train Riders of America – Bluegrass, Ebo Okokan – Afro Cuban Ensemble and Mercy Me-R&B.

Apart from the assorted on-stage music performances, One Root Festival is the place to taste food from various national origins.  Guest will be able to patronize food vendors serving food from different cultures.  Past food vendors have come from many origins including Greek, Polish, African, African America, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Polish, Jamaican, South American and more.  From Creole gumbo to Japanese sushi, One Root is the place to taste it all.

“Artistic expression as the third pillar of the festival, unearth the creativity in all of us,” said co-founder Doris Jones Hassan.  At the festival, apart from the performing artists, there will be art displays for sale at the festival.  These arts from different cultural backgrounds allow others to admire the creativity of individual cultures being represented.  “The more we know about a culture through art, the more we see similarities with our own and the less different we begin to see others from ours and consequently the more related we will feel,” said Anita Lowe, a creative potter and One Root Festival Vendor Coordinator.

One Root Festival is a family event that has something for everyone in the family.  Apart from adult activities, the One Root Youth Village is special area filled with entertaining and educational performances plus arts and crafts and many interactive activities designed just for kids.

One Root Festival is presented Dunia United Congress, a Californian non-profit organization, with major funding from Wells Fargo, NEC and many other local companies, government agencies and individuals.  For more Information, visit the http://www.oneroot.org  or contact the festival hotline at (916) 772-2557
