RAIGAMBRE
(rye-gäm-bray)
- roots, stability, tradition
"Get ready
for Raigambre
one of the best musical bets around town."-
Chris Macias, Sacramento Bee Pop Music Critic. Until the group's
formal inception in May of 2001, the eight members of what is now
Raigambre were prowling the streets of Sacramento involved in several
local musical projects such as Los Gallos, Motivo, Ebo Okokán,
and Love Taxi. When the eight vagabonds decided to unite as Raigambre,
or "Deep Roots", their collaborative effort created music
with intensity, with a message, con sabor.
From Motown
master Stevie Wonder to Latin Rock genius Carlos Santana, from Afro
Beat legend Fela Kuti to James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, Raigambre
acquires inspiration from many diverse sources and backgrounds.
Raigambre's own unique, crossover style infuses Funk with Afro-Cuban
rhythms and Chicano-Groove to share energy and el orgullo de su
cultura with the crowd.
This distinctive style brought about many recent accolades and exciting
opportunities for the group, including receiving a Sammie in 2005,
Sammie nominations in 2002, 2003 and 2004, appearances on KSFM102.5's
Tony Tecate Show, UPN's Good Day Sacramento, and MTV's Sorority
Life, and performances with such talented contemporaries as War,
Quetzal, and Ozomatli. When you attend a Raigambre show you can
expect to hear politically conscious songs like "Cara Dura,"
the cumbia that bemoans the struggle of Aztec warriors who fought
to keep their land. If you prefer funk "Soul Is Alive"
celebrateslife, brotherhood, and a liberated spirit and is guaranteed
to lure you to the dance floor. So once again get ready for Raigambre
a dynamic, unforgettable listening experience para toda la gente.
